Santa passes tests with flying colours


OTTAWA Transport Canada announced today that Santa has passed his medical test with flying colours. While his physician did suggest to Santa (again) that he eat fewer cookies, his blood pressure and his eyesight are as good as ever. Regular medical tests are part of the requirements that pilots need to meet to obtain and keep their licence.

If you’re thinking, “huh? what songs come from On The Town?” being told that I Can Cook Too is among them probably won’t help. But the Bernstein/Comden/Green collaboration also contained such songs as Some Other Time and New York, New York. (Played at the end of every game in Yankee stadium, just to rub it in for the out of towners. Unless, of course, the Jays win. But I get ahead of myself, spring training isn’t even around the corner yet, sigh.) Anyway, back to On The Town — tonight on Tonic (6 p.m.) Katie has a bit of a salute to the musical. As well, Tommy Flanagan fans take note — this evening you can hear a live trio set from the Village Vanguard — the trio eminent jazz writer Garry Giddins once said was “the standard by which piano trios are measured.”

Transport Canada Proposes Including Small Trucks in Low Speed Vehicle Definition
OTTAWA Transport Canada is taking steps to update the definition of low speed vehicles (LSVs). The proposed change would allow manufacturers of small LSV trucks to begin to market them in Canada. Such trucks could be used in applications such as grounds keeping, landscaping and in certain industrial and institutional settings.

The Government of Canada assists Georgian College to build world-class marine simulator and research centre
OTTAWA Larry Miller, Member of Parliament for Bruce - Grey - Owen Sound, Ontario, on behalf of the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the transfer of a marine navigation simulator and a marine engine room propulsion plant simulator from the Government of Canada to the Province of Ontario, along with federal funding of $1,435,000 for the province to modernize these simulators.

REGINA The Government of Canada and the Province of Saskatchewan today announced that, as part of the Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative (APGCI), the Government of Canada will contribute up to $27 million to a proposed strategic infrastructure project estimated at $93 million.
