Measha Brueggergosman Live Broadcast
Today on Sunday Afternoon in Concert, Bill Richardson hosts a live broadcast from Roy Thompson Hall s 2008 International Vocal Recitals series. Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman is accompanied by English pianist Roger Vignoles, and her repertoire includes songs by Britten, Poulenc and Satie, and coincides with the release of her new CD, Surprise. Prior to Measha’s recital Bill has a round-up of recent performances with leading Canadian orchestras, soloists and guests. Violinist Mark Fewer returns home to St. John’s, Newfoundland to play a Violin Concerto by Edgar Meyer. You may know Meyer as the bass soloist for the popular Appalachian Waltz album with fiddler Mark O’Connor and cellist Yo Yo Ma, but he’s also an accomplished composer. And yet more highlights to mention: pianist H l ne Grimaud (she of the wolves fame, as I mentioned in a previous post, A Passion For Wolves) joins the toronto Symphony Orchestra for a piano concerto by Johannes Brahms, and the Calgary based piano duo of Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann perform music of William Bolcom.

And music from a fav. band of mine today on the show (which comes to you from Gananoque, Ontario), the Great Lake Swimmers.
