Do you think enough is being done to keep B.C. highways safe?
Crews work to clear an avalanche that closed the Coquihalla Highway on Thursday. (CBC) A truck driver was rescued after a massive avalanche swept across another B.C. highway this time in the far northeastern corner of the province. Highway 97 between MacKenzie and Chetwynd in the Peace River District will likely remained closed for several days while crews clear away the quarter-kilometre long, 10-metre-deep avalanche, RCMP told CBC News on Monday. One tractor-trailer was caught in the slide, but the driver was safely rescued without injuries. Crews were still searching the site at noon to determine if any other vehicles were involved. Should B.C. seize impaired drivers’ cars?
The B.C. government is looking at its own version of an Ontario law that allows for the seizure and sale of vehicles owned by people convicted of impaired driving. The Ontario law requires drivers who’ve had three impaired driving convictions in 10 years to forfeit their vehicles to the province, which can then sell them. B.C. Solicitor General John Les said he is considering adopting similar legislation for B.C. that could be used against those with an established pattern of driving while impaired. Ultimately, any decision to seize a vehicle would have to be made by a judge in court, said Les. Full Story What do you think? Do you think B.C. should be able to seize the cars of drunk drivers, and sell them?

What do you think about the new carbon tax?
Finance Minister Carole Taylor delivers the B.C. Budget. (CBC) British Columbians refusing to change the way they live will find it costs them more and more over the next three years to heat their homes and drive their cars once the province fully implements its new carbon tax. The Liberal government’s latest budget delivered today has introduced escalating taxes on all fossil fuels. It’s meant to encourage British Columbians to do everything from walking more to weather-stripping draughty windows and doors. The tax will escalate with each year and will eventually rake in $1.85 billion, but Finance Minister Carole Taylor maintains it will be revenue neutral and the government won’t use any of it to pay for general programs. She also says that in the first year, the extra money people pay will be off-set by personal and corporate income tax cuts and a $100 rebate to every adult and child in the province.
