An Ontario woman who claimed a $12.5 million jackpot three years ago disputes claims that her win is suspicious, a probe by the CBC’s The Fifth Estate has found. Kathleen Chung of Oakville, when asked about allegations that she won the Super 7 prize under false pretenses said, “That’s not true and I don’t want to discuss this anymore.” In Chung’s case she failed to mention that her father and brother worked at the store where the ticket was validated. Chung’s family said she fudged her story about who owned the ticket for family privacy and security reasons. In the fall of 2006, The Fifth Estate conducted an investigation that found a disproportionate number of lottery retailers had won large prizes in the previous seven years. The report sparked a public uproar surrounding the lottery corporation. More alleged cases of fraud came to light in the media, with store clerks accused of fraudulently claiming millions of dollars in prizes. What’s your view? Do you think people who sell lottery tickets should be banned from playing the lotteries?

It’s an emotional issue no matter which side of the debate you’re on: dogs in parks. Now the toronto parks committee wants to impose a licence fee and other restrictions on professional dog walkers to try and control the number of dogs in the city’s off-leash areas. The city is proposing a limit of six dogs per walker and a licensing fee of $200 per year. The chair of the parks committee, Paula Fletcher, calls it “a very extreme issue. You either love dogs or you hate dogs and people have very strong opinions.” The new rules, she says, are aimed at cracking down on those who abuse the system. What’s your view? Do you think toronto needs tougher rules for dog walkers or is it just money grab by the city?

Is winter driving you crazy?
The first major winter storm of the season to blew into southern Ontario on Thursday, causing numerous traffic problems and school bus cancellations.
