CANADA S NEW GOVERNMENT INVESTS MORE THAN $10.4 MILLION IN GRADE CROSSING IMPROVEMENTS DURING RAIL SAFETY WEEK


OTTAWA In celebration of Rail Safety Week, the Honourable Michael Fortier, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, on behalf of the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced that Canada’s New Government will provide more than $10.4 million for 103 safety improvement projects at railway crossings across Canada.

AIR SECURITY STRENGTHENED – PASSENGER PROTECT READY TO TAKE FLIGHT
OTTAWA – The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, together with the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of Public Safety, today announced new regulations that will strengthen air passenger security screening. Once implemented, new measures under a program known as Passenger Protect will prevent persons who pose an immediate threat to aviation security from boarding a commercial aircraft.

CANADA S NEW GOVERNMENT RENAMES WINNIPEG INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN HONOUR OF JAMES ARMSTRONG RICHARDSON
WINNIPEG – The Honourable Vic Toews, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada on behalf of the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the renaming of Winnipeg International Airport to Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport. The new name proclaimed today is effective immediately.

CANADA S NEW GOVERNMENT AND THE GOVERNMENT OF NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR PARTNER TO FUND HIGHWAY REHABILITATION
OTTAWA Canada s New Government and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador have agreed to share equally the $48-million cost of highway rehabilitation and restoration along Route 1 of the Trans-Canada Highway in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, and the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the signing of a joint contribution agreement to fund the cost of construction.

NHL suspends Downie 20 games

NEW PARK BRIDGE OPENS AT KICKING HORSE CANYON
GOLDEN B.C. The new Park Bridge along the Trans-Canada Highway in Kicking Horse Canyon has been completed ahead of schedule. The announcement was made today by Jim Abbott, MP for Kootenay Columbia on behalf of the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, and British Columbia Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon.

CHARLOTTETOWN Canada’s New Government and the government of Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) today announced they will invest up to $47,350 for the deployment and integration of intelligent transportation systems in the province.
